We wear swimsuits at the beach, in the pool or on a boat trip. It captures everything, sunburn, UV rays, chlorine or salt. How do you protect your swimsuit against this and how do you wash it?
Protect swimwear
How do you keep your swimsuits in good condition? After wearing a bathing suit, bikini or swim brief for a day, always rinse them with cold water. Even if you haven’t been to the sea or the pool. Sunscreen and sweat also get into swimwear and leave stains. It is better to apply sunscreen first, then wait 20-30 minutes and then put on the swimsuit. But when you want to lubricate in between, it’s more difficult.

Swimming in the pool or at sea
Are you going to swim in water containing chlorine? So take a shower for that. Besides being good for pool water hygiene, it’s also good for your swimwear. For example, the clothes are first wetted with clean water, which means that chlorine cannot penetrate into them either. This also applies to salty sea water. So take a shower on the beach first, if possible.
Do not wash too often
Grains of sand from a day at the beach can also remain in the fabric and this can destroy it more quickly. Rinsing also ensures that the swimsuit does not need to be washed after each day, which is better for the fabric.
UV light bleaches fabric
Then do not wring the fabric, but wring out the water (not too hard). Otherwise, the swimsuits may lose their shape. Just as we tan (or blush) from the sun, swimwear also fades from UV rays. It is therefore recommended not to wear the same swimsuit every day to preserve the clothes.

Wash swimsuits
In addition to rinsing every time, it is good to wash the swimsuit well from time to time. It is better to do it manually. The washing machine and especially the dryer cause the quality of swimwear to decline rapidly.
Wash it by hand
It is best to follow the washing instructions. But in general, you can make your own soapy water with cold water and a detergent for delicate clothes. Dip it several times. If the swimsuit is really dirty, you can wipe it with a soft brush. Then rinse well under running cold water and squeeze out most of the water.
Do you still want to machine wash swimwear? Then put it in a laundry bag and set a hand wash schedule. Also use a detergent for delicates. Do not use fabric softener, it increases the risk of discoloration.
Let the swimsuits dry
After washing or just rinsing, the swimsuit should dry again. It is better to lay it flat or hang it. But don’t hang it in direct sunlight. It can also cause discoloration of the swimsuit, but can also remove the stretch of the elastic. And then it is more likely to be replaced. Is a swimsuit very heavy? Then put it down, otherwise the straps might start to loosen.
