Since 2003 my boyfriend and I have spent a week in Tyrol almost every year during the summer holidays. You always feel good and pleasant to be in the Alps. Breathe in the clean, refreshing mountain air and enjoy nature.
Natural air conditioning: the mountain
The guest house we always come to is 800 meters above sea level. When the temperature here reaches tropical values, we generally seek out the natural air conditioners: the mountains. 1 time a mountain hike had to be interrupted when a big thunderstorm happened during a hot afternoon. This was run blown at the pension! When we entered the accommodation, it was raining and it was windy. He also praised the “ping pong balls”. Some hikers from the lodging house were soaked. A bald Frenchman came in and showed his head; red dots! The hailstones had hit his skull hard. But he kept smiling. Apparently, he also liked the storm.
Heat in Southern Europe
Severe thunderstorms usually form at the boundary between warm air and cold air. The type of thunderstorms I have described are therefore – locally – possible in Austria. Meanwhile, heat is gripping large parts of southern Europe. But this heat does not reach us. The breeze is often onshore. With this, the relatively cool ocean air originally flows towards the Netherlands, where it usually reaches 20 to 25 degrees. Thanks to the foothills of the Azores anticyclone, sunshine is regular and dry weather prevails. Perhaps the influence of an ocean pressure will increase and it will become more volatile.
