Hein, editor-in-chief of MAX Today, will be hosting the 4 Days of Nijmegen for the first time in 2023. As a former resident of a dorm room on Via Gladiola, now is the time to take the tour you- even. This is how he hopes to win the coveted cross after 4 days. Here is his first day report.
Walk into the sunrise
“You have to give something for it, the coveted cross. So we leave the campsite in Wijchen just before 3:30 am, after which a brave bus driver takes us to Nijmegen. After a series of high fives from partying students, we cross the bridge and head into the sunrise. »
Laughing through the 1st miles
“They wake up early in Oosterhout, Valburg, Elst and Arnhem. Thanks to the friendly spectators and their cucumbers, apples, muesli bars, licorice and peppermints, we cross the 1st kilometer smiling. And unlike the Tour de France, so far without incident.
The least easy hours of the 4 Days
“When the trip is halfway through, my water bladder starts to leak through the bag. It’s the prelude to hours that are a little less easy. Long straight and less people along the road. But the peloton provides its own music and the atmosphere remains excellent (the song Guardian angel by Marco Schuitmaker is not boring even after the 43rd time).
New energy for the last kilometers of the 1st day of the 4 Days
“In Bemmel and Lent, we are once again welcomed and cared for with passion. With new energy we push our way through the last few kilometers, after which the bridge pops up again. The day ends as it began, in pleasantly bustling Nijmegen. So much for the first day, go to bed early and leave for new adventures.
