In the 2017 legislative elections, she was elected as a member of the House of Representatives for GroenLinks. Previously, she was already a temporary member of the House of Representatives of the States General for GroenLinks between November 18, 2014 and March 9, 2015, when she replaced Linda Voortman who was on maternity leave.
Early life and education
Ellemeet is a member of the noble De Jonge van Ellemeet family and as such bears the noble title of “Madame”. She is related to the Brandt Corstius family through her mother; his mother is a niece of author and linguist Hugo Brandt Corstius (1935-2014). In her early childhood, Ellemeet lived in Bonaire. She then spent most of her childhood in Wassenaar, where she attended Rijnlands Lyceum.
De Jonge van Ellemeet obtained a Dutch scholarship to complete his secondary education at the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy between 1993 and 1995. She then studied at the University of Amsterdam between 1995 and 2000, where she obtained a master’s degree in history with a focus on recent history. During her senior year, she also studied American Studies at Smith College.
Career
From 2002 to 2006, she worked for the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. In 2006, she began a three-year term as deputy director of an economic programs agency. In 2011, she became deputy director of the cultural enterprise Westergasfabriek, where she worked until March 2014. She then became network director of the Nature and Environment Federations.
Between November 18, 2014 and March 9, 2015, she was the temporary replacement for Linda Voortman of GroenLinks in the House of Representatives of the States General, as Voortman went on maternity leave. In the 2012 parliamentary elections, Ellemeet was in ninth place on GroenLinks’ list of candidates. Because the party won four seats, he was not elected. Three people higher on the list than Ellemeet (Rik Grashoff, Arjan El Fassed and Niels van den Berge) refused to take Voortman’s temporary seat.
In the 2017 legislative elections, she was elected as a member of the House of Representatives for GroenLinks. She took office on March 23, 2017.
